It neutralizes bicarbonate alkalinity in source water, lowers pH, and contributes nitrate nitrogen to the nutrient solution. Account for that nitrogen alongside your base fertilizer rather than treating acid as a nutrient-free input.

For hydroponic lettuce and leafy greens

For lettuce and leafy-green growers, nitric acid offers a way to manage alkaline makeup water while supplying part of the crop's nitrate-nitrogen requirement. Unlike phosphoric acid, it does not add phosphorus, allowing acid selection to fit the nutrient recipe. Its suitability depends on your water analysis, acid requirement, and total nitrogen target, especially in recirculating systems where repeated additions must be included in nutrient management.
