Greenhouse-Grade Calcium Nitrate for Professional Horticulture

Haifa Cal™ GG (Greenhouse Grade) delivers fully water-soluble calcium nitrate optimized for fertigation, hydroponics, and foliar applications in controlled-environment agriculture. With 15.5% nitrogen and 19% calcium, this greenhouse-grade formulation provides efficient, plant-available sources of both nutrients. Free of chloride, sodium, and sulfate, Cal GG ensures clean nutrition without salt accumulation or nutrient antagonism—critical for high-value greenhouse crops and intensive production systems.

Key Benefits

  • Complete Water Solubility: Dissolves fully and rapidly in cold water, ideal for injection systems, drip irrigation, and hydroponic nutrient solutions
  • Efficient Calcium & Nitrogen Source: Provides readily available calcium and nitrate nitrogen for optimal plant uptake and utilization
  • Chloride & Sulfate Free: Prevents salt accumulation and eliminates precipitation issues when mixed with other fertilizers (except phosphates and sulfates)
  • Continuous Calcium Supply: Addresses calcium's immobility in plants by providing steady nutrition throughout the crop cycle
  • Quality Enhancement: Strengthens cell walls, improves firmness, reduces physiological disorders (blossom end rot, tip burn), and extends shelf life
  • Greenhouse-Grade Purity: Low heavy metal content and minimal impurities ensure safe use in recirculating systems and on high-value crops

Application Guidelines

Hydroponics/Soilless Systems: Maintain 150-200 ppm N and 150-180 ppm Ca in nutrient solution for most greenhouse crops. Adjust based on crop type, growth stage, and water quality. Prepare separate stock tanks (A and B) to prevent precipitation with phosphate and sulfate sources.

Fertigation/Drip Irrigation: Apply 10-25 lbs per acre per week through injection systems. Dissolve completely before injection. Ideal for greenhouse tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, and ornamentals grown in soilless media.

Foliar Application: Mix 2-4 lbs per 100 gallons of water. Apply during active growth periods to prevent calcium deficiency disorders. Spray during cooler parts of the day or under reduced light to maximize absorption and minimize leaf burn.

Stock Solution Preparation: Dissolve in water according to your fertigation system requirements. Always prepare calcium nitrate in a separate tank (Tank A) from phosphate and sulfate fertilizers (Tank B) to prevent precipitation.

Why Calcium Nutrition Matters

Calcium is essential for cell wall structure, membrane integrity, and enzyme activation. It directly influences fruit firmness, disease resistance, and post-harvest quality. Unlike mobile nutrients, calcium cannot be redistributed within the plant, so continuous supply is critical—especially during rapid growth and fruit development.

The nitrate form of nitrogen in Haifa Cal GG promotes vigorous vegetative growth and enhances calcium uptake. Nitrate nitrogen is readily absorbed by plants and supports optimal crop development without the pH complications associated with ammonium-based fertilizers.

Preventing Calcium Deficiency Disorders

Calcium deficiency causes significant economic losses in greenhouse production through disorders like blossom end rot (tomatoes, peppers), tip burn (lettuce, cabbage), and fruit cracking. These disorders occur even when calcium levels are adequate in the growing media, because calcium movement depends on transpiration and can be limited during rapid fruit expansion or high humidity.

Regular application of Haifa Cal GG through fertigation and strategic foliar sprays ensures adequate calcium reaches developing tissues, preventing deficiency symptoms and maximizing marketable yield.

Compatibility & Mixing

Haifa Cal GG can be mixed with most water-soluble fertilizers except those containing sulfates or phosphates. When preparing concentrated stock solutions, always keep calcium nitrate separate from sulfate and phosphate sources to prevent precipitation. Mix in the final dilute solution or inject through separate lines.

Ideal For

Greenhouse tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, eggplant, lettuce, leafy greens, strawberries, cut flowers, potted ornamentals, specialty crop, and any crop grown in soilless media, hydroponics, or controlled-environment systems where calcium nutrition and crop quality are priorities.

Haifa Cal GG is the trusted calcium nitrate choice for professional greenhouse growers worldwide.

  • Pure: Free of chloride, sodium and other elements harmful to plants.
  • Water Soluble: Fully soluble in water, ideal for high science applications through Nutrigation™ and foliar application.

Application recommendations

Nutrigation™

Nutrigation™ (fertigation), i.e. the delivery of pure nutrients to the plant through the irrigation system, is a highly efficient application method, which allows total control of the dose, composition, time and place of application of nutrition to the plant. Haifa Cal™ GG is ideal for Nutrigation™ in soil and soilless growing media. The pure and highly soluble Haifa Cal™ GG is safe to be used by all types of irrigation systems and can be mixed with all types of water-soluble fertilizers, except those containing sulfates or phosphates.

Calcium in Nutrigation™ should be applied constantly at relatively high levels. To obtain adequate nutrition, concentrations between 80 and 200 ppm of Ca2+ should be applied, depending on the demand of the crop, the stage of development, the irrigation dose and radiation. The application dose should take into account whether there are other sources of calcium, such as those from soil or water.

Haifa Cal™ GG foliar application should be applied at a concentration of 0.5-2% of the solution, depending on the crop demand, cultivation phase and climatic conditions. In fruit trees, it is recommended to apply 120-200 kg/ha/year, distributed in 6-12 times at a concentration of 0.6 – 0.65 % of the solution.

General Instructions:
  • Spray during cooler, wetter times of the day and when wind speeds are low.
  • Never spray when plants are under stress.
  • After spraying, thoroughly wash the equipment and all parts of it with clean water.
  • Perform a test to evaluate possible side effects or toxicity by means of a small test, spraying one week before the planned commercial treatments.
Note: These recommendations should be considered as general guidance only. Actual doses and timing of application should be determined according to the specific needs of the crops, soil and water conditions, and the farmer's experience
