Plant with Ease

  1. Recommended Solution to Use for Initial Hydration Charge:
    • 1.1 – Using only Calcium Nitrate and pH adjuster, mix batch tank to, or set fertilizer injection system to, 4.0 EC and 5.6 pH.
  2. Open the dehydrated coco bag and place drip emitter stakes vertically into the pre-drilled holes in the coco block.
  3. Water with the calcium nitrate solution, using irrigation shots that are 6% of the final expected coco bag volume, with a 10 minute rest time in between shots. Typically 10-15 total shots are needed to reach full initial hydration. 
    • 3.1 – 6% shot for 1 gallon bags = 230 mL
      • 3.1.1.6 minute run time if using two 0.3 GPH (1.2 L/H) drip emitters per bag.
      • 3.1.2.3 minute 30 second run time if using two 0.5 GPH (2 L/H) drip emitters per bag.
    • 3.2 – 6% shot for 1.5 gallon bags = 340 mL
      • 3.2.1.8 minute 30 second run time if using two 0.3 GPH (1.2 L/H) drip emitters per bag.
      • 3.2.2.5 minute 6 second run time if using two 0.5 GPH (2 L/H) drip emitters per bag
    • 3.3 – 6% shot for 2 gallon bags = 454 mL
      • 3.3.1.11 minute 21 second run time if using two 0.3 GPH (1.2 L/H) drip emitters per bag.
      • 3.3.2.6 minute 48 second run time if using two 0.5 GPH (2 L/H) drip emitters per bag
    • 3.4 – After reaching full hydration, allow at least 30 minutes for cation exchange to occur before moving to the next step and rinsing.
  4. Post-hydration Rinse
    • 4.1 – Mix a new batch tank or reset your fertigation system to achieve your normal target feed recipe, EC, and pH.
    • 4.2 – Run the irrigation system using the same 6% shot size, with 10 minute breaks in between, until the runoff coming out of the bottom of the bag is no more than 0.8 higher than the input nutrient solution EC.
    • 4.3 – Coco is now thoroughly charged, rinsed, and ready to be planted into.
