Poultry-manure-based nutrition with added biology

Sigma 2-4-2 Bio combines a 2-4-2 nutrient profile with calcium, magnesium, humate and biological additions in a 50 lb bag. The supplied label lists composted poultry manure and feather meal as plant nutrient sources, plus Bacillus-group bacteria, mycorrhizal fungi and Trichoderma.

Consider this formula when soil testing and your crop’s nutrient plan call for its lower nitrogen concentration and nutrient balance. For example, a nursery preparing transplant media can select the label rate for its substrate rather than applying a general-purpose blend by habit. A lower nitrogen percentage does not mean nitrogen-free, and this formula is not automatically appropriate wherever more phosphate is unnecessary.

Humate and biological ingredients

• Humate: 10%, as listed on the supplied label. This is not presented as a 10% humic-acid guarantee.
• Listed bacteria: Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, Bacillus licheniformis and Brevibacillus laterosporus.
• Listed mycorrhizal fungi: Glomus intraradices, Glomus etunticatum, Glomus aggregatum and Glomus mosseae.
• Listed Trichoderma: Trichoderma viride and Trichoderma harzianum.

For numerical microbial concentrations, request confirmation from the manufacturer: the supplied label’s per-pound totals and individual per-gram figures do not reconcile. We have not used those figures to make comparative biological-strength claims.

Natural turf, medium: 37.5 lb (0.75 lb N)

Golf course, per 1,000 sq ft:

Vegetables: incorporate 2–3 weeks before planting.
Low (peas, beans): 2,500 lb/acre
Medium (asparagus, beet, carrot, melon, pepper, cauliflower, broccoli, brussels sprouts, celery): 5,000 lb/acre
High (onion, sweet corn, potato, tomato): 6,000 lb/acre

Trees and palms: rate per 1 inch of trunk diameter (caliper).
Incorporation: mix 12.5 lb with soil in the bottom of the planting hole at transplanting.
Broadcast: 25 lb at transplanting.
