The Speedy Root 50-Cell Seed Starter Tray combines 50 individual peat-based plugs with a 10 x 20-inch tray for seed starting, cutting propagation, and transplant production. Its organized cell layout makes it easier to manage a batch of young plants before moving them into larger containers.

Peat plugs for seeds and cuttings

The peat-based medium uses an organic binder to help the plugs hold their shape during handling. Once roots have developed sufficiently, move each plant with its plug rather than separating the roots from loose growing medium. Handle plugs gently and transplant according to crop development, not a fixed timetable.

Propagation guidance

Moisten plugs evenly before sowing seeds or inserting prepared cuttings. Adjust irrigation, humidity, temperature, and lighting to the crop and propagation stage. Monitor plug moisture regularly; avoid leaving the tray in standing water or allowing plugs to dry excessively.

Use a crop-appropriate fertility program. Transplant when root development is sufficient to keep the plug together during handling, supporting the plug as you remove it from the tray. Check the fit of supporting trays, domes, and other accessories before use.

Choosing a tray size

The 50-cell format offers a practical middle option between the larger-plug 32-cell tray and the higher-density 102-cell tray. Choose cell size and spacing based on your crop, anticipated propagation time, and the root volume needed before transplanting.
