Choose the material and format

• 45% liquid potassium hydroxide: compare the 1, 2.5, 5, and 55 gallon listings. This concentrated alkaline material requires product-specific handling and dosing procedures.
• Liquid potassium carbonate 0-0-25: a 2.5 gallon option that contributes potassium while raising pH.

Product names and concentrations matter. Potassium hydroxide and potassium carbonate are different chemicals, and liquid volumes cannot be substituted directly for dry weights. Check individual listings for current price, availability, and packaging.

Account for the potassium contribution

These inputs contribute potassium as well as changing pH. Include repeated corrections in your overall nutrient balance rather than treating pH adjustment as separate from fertilization. The liquid potassium carbonate 0-0-25 analysis expresses potash as K₂O equivalent, not elemental potassium.

Measure before choosing a rate

Review source-water chemistry, your current nutrient solution, and the crop’s target conditions. Starting pH alone does not establish the dose. Follow the supplier’s directions, verify a small test adjustment with a calibrated meter, and recheck the solution over time.

These are pH-up products. Nitric acid and other acidifiers lower pH and are not substitutes for an alkaline correction. Do not mix concentrated acids with concentrated bases.

Handling and equipment selection

Read the current safety data sheet and label for protective equipment, compatible containers, dilution, and storage. The plastic drum pump is suitable for liquid potassium hydroxide as well as sulfuric and phosphoric acid. Follow the pump instructions and chemical safety data sheets, and use separate, dedicated equipment for acids and alkalis to prevent cross-contamination.
