Custom Commercial Cannabis Fertilizers
Custom Formulated Fertilizer Programs for Commercial Cannabis Cultivation
If you operate a commercial cannabis cultivation facility, you should be mixing your own in-house liquid fertilizer concentrates from pure mineral raw materials. The market is saturated with overpriced, brand-name cannabis fertilizers from unknown manufacturers with unverifiable labels and inflated price tags. Nothing is more crop-specific than a custom-formulated, in-house nutrient program — and nothing is more cost-efficient either.
With the multi-channel fertigation control systems available to professional cultivators today — offering 4, 6, 8, or more independent stock tank channels — the range of working solutions that can be automatically mixed and distributed to your crop is nearly limitless. Each channel can carry a different concentrated input: calcium nitrate in Part A, phosphate and sulfate sources in Part B, potassium supplementation, pH adjustment, iron chelate, and micronutrient packages all running independently and injected at precise ratios into the final working solution.
Why Raw Material Inputs Beat Cannabis-Branded Fertilizers
- Verified purity: All fertilizer materials stocked by Custom Hydro are sourced from globally recognized manufacturers — Yara, Haifa, ICL, K+S, Brandt, and others. Heavy metals analyses are publicly available through the CDFA fertilizer database. You know exactly what you are applying.
- Cost efficiency: Pure mineral inputs cost a fraction of branded cannabis fertilizers on a per-nutrient basis. At commercial scale, the savings are substantial — often 60–80% reduction in fertilizer cost per pound of finished product.
- Formulation control: You control the N:K ratio, Ca:Mg ratio, NH₄:NO₃ ratio, and micronutrient package independently at every stage — propagation, vegetative, transition, early flower, mid flower, late flower, and flush. No branded product gives you that precision.
- Scalability: Raw material inputs are available in commercial quantities — 50 lb bags, 55 lb bags, and bulk — with consistent lot-to-lot analysis.
Core Raw Material Inputs for a Cannabis Nutrient Program
A complete cannabis nutrient program built from raw materials typically includes the following categories of inputs:
Calcium and Nitrogen Source (Part A)
Calcium nitrate is the foundation of Part A in any multi-part nutrient program. It supplies calcium and nitrate nitrogen in a single, fully water-soluble compound and must be kept separate from phosphate and sulfate sources to prevent precipitation. YaraLiva CalciNit 15.5-0-0 (19% Ca) is the global greenhouse standard. PureCal 13-0-0 (18% Ca) is a fully ammonium-free trihydrate option for growers targeting zero NH₄-N in their calcium source.
Phosphate Source (Part B)
Monopotassium phosphate (MKP) is the standard phosphate input in hydroponic and fertigation programs — it supplies both phosphorus and potassium with no sodium or chloride. ICL PeaK MKP 0-52-34 and WeGrow MAP 12-61-0 are the primary phosphate inputs stocked at Custom Hydro. For system cleaning and scale prevention in hard water, Haifa GrowClean 5-31-40 polyphosphate is an effective addition to the Part B tank.
Potassium Sources
Potassium demand increases significantly during flowering in cannabis. Multiple potassium sources allow precise ratio management across growth stages. Haifa Multi-K RECI Potassium Nitrate 13-0-46 supplies potassium alongside nitrate nitrogen and is compatible with Part A or B depending on system configuration. Haifa SOP GG 0-0-51 and Protassium+ SOP 0-0-53 are sulfate of potash sources — chloride free, low salt index, and preferred for late-stage flower programs where potassium sulfate is agronomically favored over potassium nitrate.
Magnesium Sources
Magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt) is the standard magnesium input in hydroponic programs. Magriculture Magnesium Sulfate Heptahydrate and K+S Magnesium Sulfate are both greenhouse-grade, fully water-soluble options stocked at Custom Hydro. Magnesium deficiency is common in cannabis, particularly in high-EC programs where calcium and potassium compete for uptake.
Silicon Source
Potassium silicate is the preferred silicon source for hydroponic and fertigation programs. AgSil 16H Potassium Silicate is a highly concentrated, fully soluble potassium silicate supplying both silicon and potassium. Silicon strengthens cell walls, improves heat and drought tolerance, and has documented benefits for pest and pathogen resistance in cannabis. Note: potassium silicate must be added to the final working solution separately and at high dilution — it is not compatible with concentrated stock solutions containing calcium or phosphate.
Iron Chelates
Iron is the most commonly deficient micronutrient in high-pH hydroponic systems. Chelated iron sources maintain iron solubility across a range of solution pH values. Sequestar 6% Fe EDDHA is the most pH-stable iron chelate available — effective up to pH 9 — and is the preferred source for systems with chronically elevated pH or alkaline water. Sequestar 11% Fe DTPA is effective up to pH 7.5 and is the standard iron chelate for most hydroponic programs operating in the optimal pH range of 5.5–6.5. Sequestar 13.2% Fe EDTA is a high-analysis option effective at pH below 6.5.
Micronutrient Package
A complete chelated micronutrient mix rounds out the nutrient program, supplying manganese, zinc, copper, boron, and molybdenum in chelated or soluble form. Custom Hydro Chelated Micronutrient Mix is formulated for hydroponic and fertigation use and is compatible with standard multi-part nutrient programs.
